A Dubai-based client sought a retreat in the hills — a summer house in Coonoor, one of South India’s most scenic hill stations. The brief was to transform a shell structure into a finished, liveable home worthy of the landscape surrounding it.
JJ Constructions took over the project post-plastering, delivering the complete interior fit-out including flooring and landscape. Working from an existing structure, our focus was entirely on finish quality and material character.
The entrance sets the tone immediately. Guests arrive through a repurposed container corridor — clad in glass and fluted wall panels — a bold architectural moment that blends industrial edge with the softness of the hill setting.
Executing this project came with its own set of demands. All construction materials were sourced and transported from Bangalore, over 300 km away. Skilled labour had to be brought in and accommodated on-site through Coonoor’s cold weather conditions. Both logistics required careful coordination to keep the project on track without compromising on quality.
The result is a hill retreat with a distinct personality — where a striking entrance, considered finishes, and a connection to the landscape come together seamlessly.
